Bloggers Christmas Beauty Brawl: Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer Review

Ten days, ten product reviews: click through for the 2015 #bxbeautybrawl and see A Greater Gorgeous's reviews!

Welcome to the second review of the Bloggers Christmas Beauty Brawl! For the next nine days, three other bloggers and I will be reviewing ten products each, from the same categories, by the same standards. We'll honestly review and score all of our purchases, and at the end of the ten days whichever blogger purchased the best products (has the highest score) will win a prize. Fun for both of us: reviews for you, prezzies for me (I hope!).

See yesterday's review here!

Today we're reviewing our choices for a moisturizer, and my product choice is Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer. Simple is a brand geared toward sensitive skin, and this is their only moisturizer with SPF (15) in it. I've used Simple in the past, and I've used this moisturizer on clients, but I haven't used it on myself.

I've always liked the way Simple designs their packaging because it reflects the name of the company. It's a very clean, simple (sorry) look — just green lettering on a white background. It really communicates the idea behind the brand, which is to provide skincare free of artificial perfume, dyes, or harsh chemicals. The bottle itself is leak-free and easy to store on its top when it gets low.

Most moisturizers that contain SPF have that sunscreen smell, and this is no exception. It's not terribly strong, and I don't personally mind it that much, but I do know that a lot of people seek an SPF moisturizer that doesn't smell like sunscreen. If so, this is not your guy!

I do enjoy the feel of this moisturizer on the skin, and it soaks in pretty quickly (given that it's intended to be a light moisturizer). Side note: did you know that you're not supposed to rub your sunscreen into your face? You're supposed to pat and roll. I think a little rubbing kind of has to be done, but you want your sunscreen to sit on top of your skin so that it can protect it!

As far as the product's effectiveness, I have to trust that if it says it has SPF 15, it's protecting my skin. As for the moisturization, this is definitely not a wintertime go-to moisturizer unless you have very oily (or, perhaps, sensitive) skin. Most skin is going to need a fair bit more moisture than this in dry winter weather, though I do think this would be a great summer moisturizer.

At $12.99 for 4.2 fl oz this is definitely one of the less expensive moisturizers on the market, but I think the price is in line with the quality. You're not paying much, so you're not going to get a higher SPF or a ton of moisturization — and when it comes to beauty products and services, you get what you pay for.

Finally, as for availability, this is one of the most available product lines in the market. Stop into any grocery store or drug store and you're going to find Simple!

So overall, would I recommend this moisturizer? I think I would, but only to a specific type of person. I would recommend it to teenagers who don't need to worry too much about the quality of their skincare yet, or men, who don't really need to worry about the quality of their skincare at all.
