Cleansing Duo Review | Sponsored

This post is a sponsored review of the Cleansing Duo. All opinions are my own. See my full disclosure policy here.

Procter & Gamble have got a new product hitting the stores this month, and in my opinion it is actually something new to the skincare/body wash market. Refreshing, isn't it? It seems like left and right we're seeing companies come out with new versions of the same product. So I'm pumped to tell you about something new!

The Duo takes a new approach to getting clean in the shower. It's a double-sided cleanser that combines the cleanliness of bar soap with the skin care of body wash. One side exfoliates, one side smooths, and the cleanser inside is soft and flexible to make it easy to was the contours of your body. Just add water to lather it up, hang it to dry, and when the lather fades, it's time for a new one!

P&G were kind enough to send me a few samples for review, so let's get into it, shall we?

Are there varieties?

Yes! The Duo is available in Olay, Ivory, and Old Spice. Olay is a Soothing Orchid & Black Currant scent - pretty strong when you first open it, but not overpowering when you use it. Definitely a feminine, floral scent. Old Spice is, as you would expect, a more masculine scent. Not as overpowering when you open it, and smells quite nice when used (as Old Spice usually does). Ivory is more of a middle-of-the-road soap smell, neither feminine nor masculine, and good for people who want a more subtle scent to their body wash. It claims to have "no heavy perfumes" and appears to be better for sensitive skin (more on that later).

How big is it?

The Duo is slightly larger than the palm of a hand and about 3/4 inch thick. It covers more ground than a bar of soap because it's wider and flatter. The cleanser itself is 3.1 oz which is the same as a bar of Ivory soap (though bar soap varies and can be up to 4.5 oz).

How does it feel?

When I first pulled it out of the package, I thought two things:

  1. The soap feels pretty hard, as if it will just be a large bar of soap, and therefore possibly hard to get the various contours of the body.
  2. The scrubby side of the duo doesn't feel like it will be that scrubby.

Husband tried it out before I did and one of the things he said was that the soap actually softens once you get it wet, so you can manipulate it a bit. It's a good consistency though, not too hard but not squishy-soft -- just moldable. The more wet it is, the more it can change shape as needed!

As for the scrubby (proper word "exfoliating") side, despite it feeling minimally scrubby when dry, I was surprised at how scrubby it actually is. It's definitely exfoliating and though it felt the tiniest bit harsh the first time I used it (because my skin is not used to exfoliation), after that first time it actually felt really good to use the scrubby side. My skin is so much smoother!

The soft side is super smooth and comfortable! You can get more lather out of the scrubby side (texture allows it to lather up better).

Is it moisturizing?

I would say it's right in between bar soap and body wash in terms of being moisturizing. It's WAY more moisturizing than a bar soap for sure, and leans in the direction of a creamy body wash! My super-dehydrated skin was not tight and uncomfortable after using it.

How long does it last?

I haven't had it long enough to say for sure, but it claims to last up to 30 washes.

Anything else special about it?

The Ivory variety seems to be the choice for sensitive skin. It's paraben free, sulfate free, soap free, and pH balanced. In my opinion that makes it the best choice of three regardless of whether or not you have sensitive skin!

Where can I get it?

Duo is available in Olay, Old Spice and Ivory available in select Drugstores, mass and food retailers and eCommerce sites nationwide for $9.99-$12.99.

Final opinion?

I think this a great product to combine body wash and bar soap. I've always been a bar soap girl myself, finding that I didn't like having to use a loofah + body wash, but of course I've always needed a second product to exfoliate. This puts everything in one neat package.

Overall I would recommend it if you're looking for something a little better than what you're using in the shower now!
