Strobing: How-to & Video Tutorial

Learn how to do one of the hottest (and simplest!) beauty trends on yourself: strobing! Click through for a detailed how-to video tutorial.

Strobing. Have you heard of it? I only heard of it about a week ago, and it turns out it's something I was already doing with some regularity. Apparently it's also taking the beauty world by storm, so I thought I'd get you in on the goods. Ready? An alternative to contouring, strobing is done exclusively with the use of a highlighting or illuminating powder on the high points of the face. It creates a beautiful glow if you're using the right products, it looks a little less "made up" than contouring looks, and it is super easy to do. I'm going to show you how to do it with all kinds of visuals, so hold on to your butts.

Are you ready to meet Beauty Judy?

"Hey, Judy!" This is Beauty Judy. She loves Harry Potter, mint chocolate chip ice cream, swimming pools, and the occasional glass of rosé. Do your best to get along, because she's sticking around — this ain't the last you'll see of Beauty Judy.

Today, Judy's helping me show you where to apply highlighter for a strobing effect! See all of those peach spots on her face? That's where you want the highlighter to go:

  1. Above and below the brows
  2. Inner corner of the eyes
  3. Down the center of the nose
  4. Top of the cheek bones
  5. Cupid's bow
  6. Top of the chin

It's that simple. It's the very last thing I do, and yes, I still use bronzer — I just don't contour with it. But I did say "all kinds of visuals," didn't I? Are you ready for me to hit you with the next one?

Video. Five minutes and 20 seconds of strobing, and you don't even have to turn the sound on if you don't want to! I talk a little but really I'm just yammering.

Now, for my last visual, I'm going to show you some products that would be perfect for strobing to your heart's content. The key here is shimmer, not sparkle. Sheen = good, glitter = bad. We're trying to glow here people, not blind everyone.

What do you think about strobing — something you'll try? I'll admit, I was anti-heavy highlight for a long time until recently, but now I just want my face to look like sunshine. So I strobe. If you give it a try, post a picture on Insta & tag me @agreatergorgeous! I'd love to see it!
